Washington State Developmental Disabilities Council

Description of

Washington State Developmental Disabilities Council

The Washington State Developmental Disabilities Council (DDC) advocates for better services, policies, and opportunities for people with developmental disabilities and their families. Established in 1976 and funded by the federal government, the DDC is an independent organization guided by the federal Developmental Disabilities Assistance and Bill of Rights Act of 2000. We work alongside partners across the state to promote inclusion, independence, and meaningful lives in the community, with a Council made up primarily of people with developmental disabilities and their family members along with representatives of state agencies and advocacy organizations.

Description of Resource

The Washington State Developmental Disabilities Council supports people with developmental disabilities and their families by providing leadership training, advocacy tools, and access to helpful information. The Council works to identify barriers to services and partners with community organizations to improve systems and promote inclusion. Through statewide projects and collaborations, the Council helps individuals from all backgrounds build skills, navigate services, and influence positive change. The council has many resources to give to our community and our state we have been trying to broaden the involvement of more secluded communities who may not know about services that they may need.
