So much is happening across the country for the disability community right now, so we are sharing information around a few key topics to raise awareness.
Recent legal and policy developments may affect how disability rights protections are interpreted and enforced. Olmstead helps protect the right of people with disabilities to receive services in the community when appropriate, while Section 504 protects students with disabilities from discrimination and supports equal access to education.
Changes to federal oversight of special education and vocational rehabilitation may also change how these programs are managed and how people access education and employment supports.
Voting by mail can make participating in elections more accessible for people with disabilities who may face transportation, mobility or other barriers to voting at a polling location. Changes under H.R. 1 will introduce new eligibility requirements for some adults enrolled in Apple Health beginning Jan. 1, 2027. People covered through Apple Health for Adults may need to meet work requirements or qualify for an exemption, and they will need to renew their coverage every six months instead of once a year.
