Voting: Get Ready!

July 9, 2026

We recently marked the 250th anniversary of the United States of America. As we think about our democracy, we can also think about the ways people take part in it.

In a democracy, people have the opportunity to choose leaders and representatives who make decisions about laws, policies and public services. Voting is one way we can take part in that process and help shape the communities we live in.

As we think about the upcoming election, it is important to make sure you are ready to vote. Washington state is primarily a vote-by-mail state. Voters with disabilities can also learn about accessible voting options through the Washington secretary of state’s office, including accessible voting units. If someone you know needs help with voting, Disability Rights Washington has information about assisting voters with disabilities.

If you are interested in learning more about who is running in your district, The Arc of Washington State is sharing candidate survey responses to its 2026 candidate questionnaires. The questionnaires were sent to candidates running for state legislative and congressional offices. Candidate names are linked when a response is available, and you can continue to check back as more candidates respond.

Taking time now to learn about your options, review available resources and make a plan can help you feel more prepared when it is time to vote.
